Lugh agus Lúnasa

Date: Tuesday 5th August 2025 at 8:00pm Irish time

Ceardlann Mhíosúil

Monthly reflective workshop. Available exclusively to ⭕️ Ciorcal Beo members.

About this Workshop

It’s the beginning of Lúnasa (August). It’s the harvest time, the beginning of the Irish autumn. Irish mythology tells stories of the festival of Lugnasad, named after the god Lugh.

In this reflective workshop, we’ll explore where in Ireland Lugh brings us, who illustrated Lugh, and the festival of Lugnasad and Aonach Tailteann. (You can also watch The Lore of Lúnasa interview with Conchúr Mag Eacháin).

You’ll also have the chance to practice reading Irish aloud with intention.

Eoin will cover a reflection on Lugh’s multiple talents, what Irish poet John Moriarty and Jungian analyst and author Barbara Hannah had to say about this. You’ll have time to discuss in small groups.

Léitheoireacht – Reading

I luathlitríocht na hÉireann, ba é Cú Chulainn príomhlaoch na nUltach sna laochscéalta Rúraíochta agus an príomhcharachtar sa Táin Bó Cuailgne. I leaganacha áirithe litríochta, deirtear gurbh é Lugh a athair. Tá baint ar leith ag Lugh le cumas agus sároilteacht in iliomad cleachtaí cosúil leis na healaíona, mionnaí, fírinne agus an dlí.

Bhunaigh Lugh Aonach Tailteann in ómós dá mháthair altrama, Tailte. Ba imeacht Lúnasa cosúil leis na Cluichí Oilimpeacha é. Maíonn an béaloideas nua-aimseartha gur thosaigh Cluichí Tailteann timpeall 1600 RC, agus maíonn roinnt foinsí chomh fada siar le 1829 RC. Bhí trí fheidhm ag an Aonach ársa: onóir a thabhairt do na mairbh, dlíthe a fhógairt, agus cluichí sochraide agus féilte chun siamsaíocht a chur ar fáil.
